Tuscaloosa officials have granted permission for building the hotel near Riverfront and Amphitheater. The plan was to build a grocery store on land, which will benefit the entire city. Nonetheless, the City Council has agreed that the hotel would accommodate the visitors during music concerts and sports events.
The amphitheater was constructed in 2009, since then it has been the grandest architectural building in downtown Tuscaloosa. The land just near the Jack Warner Parkway was primarily meant for building a grocery store in the area. Since many residents of the city work in the vicinity, the grocery store was a logical solution.
At the beginning of the week, city officials voted at the City Council for the hotel to take its place at the intersection of Jack Warner Parkway and Greensboro Avenue. The developers of the proposed hotel project Homewood Suites by Hilton are Tuscaloosa Investments LLC.
The construction of the before mentioned hotel is expected to start in September this year. The architectural plans of the hotel include a fitness center, lounge, rooftop bar, swimming pool, and meeting areas.
The council members explained that the decision is delivered based on the benefits the hotel will bring to the city. The main reason behind the hotel approval is the development of the area, which will attract new business prospects, as well as tourists.
